Adopt A Puffin
For Mother’s Day!

This Mother’s Day, we are honoring our puffin moms, Y33, EN53, and EN+06. Each has reared a puffling from hatching to fledging almost every year for the past 20 years! Pufflings “fledge” when they are about 42 days old, at which time they head to sea to begin a life of independence.

Puffin mom EN53 will be 30 years old this year. She has fledged a puffling every year since 1987. Puffin mom EN+06 will be 29 years old this year. She has fledged a puffling every year since 1992. And Puffin mom Y33 (one of the two oldest breeding puffins on Eastern Egg Rock Island) is 32 years old and has also fledged a puffling every year since 1992. Each of these nurturing moms has nested in the same burrow every year for over 20 years!
